I'm Not From Here, But I'm Not From There

Introductions at an international university such as NYU begin with the country you represent. I'm not sure which was the worse follow-up to Greece, Japan, Switzerland, Peru, Kenya, and Korea: California or "No, I'm not from China."

Two Asians are sitting in Bryant Park drinking Jamba Juice and conversing in English. A man approaches them, newspaper in hand and subscription sales in mind. Before he can fire his pitch, he is visually ambushed by their black hair and flat noses. He apologetically exclaims "OH! You don't speak English," and flees the scene. The Asians, in bewildered victory, have developed a new strategy against solicitors: look Asian.

One of these Asians is from California, not China.
